Wig Care

Here are some instructions to help you care for your new wig. If you have any questions, feel free to call and we will always be happy to help!

HUMAN HAIR

Cleansing
Before you shampoo, gently remove all tangles, using a wide tooth comb or paddle brush. Working in small sections, begin from the tip working towards the base (the cap). Use a shampoo specifically designed for human hair wigs. Run the hair under warm water. Place a small amount of shampoo on your fingers and gently work it into the hair. Stroke downward, from the base to the ends. Do not twist, scrub or rub the hair. When finished shampooing, rinse thoroughly under warm, running water until water runs clear. It is very important to rinse until all the shampoo is removed.

Conditioning
Apply a small amount of conditioner using your fingers, work it into the hair avoiding the base of the cap (applying conditioner to the base of the cap may weaken the knots) and let sit for 3-5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Gently pat with a towel to remove excess water. DO NOT use a brush to detangle while wig is wet. Be sure to use a downward motion with a large toothed comb, as a bristle brush on wet hair may pull it out or cause breakage. Hang your wig to air dry on a vented wig stand (approximately 8-10 hours or overnight).

Styling
Using steam rollers or wet setting are the safest ways to curl human hair. Blow dryers, curling irons and other related tools may be used but only on low settings. Keep in mind that the hair can scorch if settings are too high.

*Remember that cutting or any chemical processes like perming and colouring of human hair wigs should always be done by a wig specialist.

SYNTHETIC HAIR

Cleansing
Before shampooing, gently brush the piece to remove teasing or tangles. Be sure to use only water soluble products designed specifically for synthetic hair, as other products will dull the fiber. Add one capful of synthetic wig shampoo to two quarts of cold water. Let wig soak for at least five minutes. Do not swish around, tamp down on wig to fully submerge into water. Rinse in cold water. Dab gently with a towel to remove excess water. Do not squeeze or twist and do not comb while wet.

Conditioning
While still wet, spray on a leave-in conditioner formulated specifically for synthetic hair. Hang the piece up or drape over a vented wig stand so that air will circulate around it and it will dry properly. Never put a synthetic wig on a solid headstand or block, as it will stretch the cap or form itself to the object's shape.

* Overnight drying is recommended.

Styling
Once your synthetic wig dries you can brush or comb it. It isn't necessary to set it because it will always bounce back to its original shape. Never use a curling iron or blow dryer on synthetic fiber. Even low heat will alter the curl and may even melt the fiber. High heat is a definite no-no.

*There is no need to shampoo a synthetic wig every time it is worn. The type of styling products you use (such as hairspray, mousse or gel) and how often you use them will determine how often you need to shampoo.

Sometimes once a week will suffice. Or if you don't use any products and only wear your wig for a couple hours at a time, you may only need to shampoo every 20-25 times you wear it.

  • Dear Frances and Mag, I wanted to send you this photo to you, so you can see how your support and services can transform people's lives. I will never be able to repay you for the kindness and support you showed me when buying my first, now second hairpiece from you. Thanks again. Lots of love.

  • ~~Thank you Mag and Frances... Got a lot of compliments on my new wig. It is like I gave myself a big treat going to your salon. The big dilemma of chemo is hair loss but hey it's not that bad at all. The style of my new hair looks good on me. My kids still didn't know it's a wig. Thank you!

  • What fantastic work each and everyone of you do. You do your work with kindness, caring and most of all a sensitive soul. You have a great understanding of how your actions can turn things around for someone. You give from the heart and that is obvious. Thank you so much for all you do.

  • Thank you so much for inviting me to join my cousin while she dealt with her hair loss. Everyone of your clients are leaning on you for a huge amount of support and trust. Though this may be very emotional to see and hear, you must feel so terrific at the end of the day, to know that you have touched and made a huge impact on someones emotional well-being and confidence! I wish you had been doing this in 2000 when I was going through chemo but I'm so happy for those you support today.

  • This is just a short note of thanks for your kindness in helping me prepare for my hair loss. No matter how I told myself that the hair loss is temporary, the entire process is a mix of some fun but mostly loss. I had many compliments on my wig, especially the colours. Thank you for helping me pick it out. Please know that you have been an important part of my treatment and recovery! Gratefully yours

  • Thank you so much for your sweet attention and sensitivity the day I visited you to have my hair removed. You were so kind, gentle, and understanding. I had been dreading the procedure, but you made it quite manageable. I have now had two chemo treatments with four to go. As I meet new friends on the journey I am telling them about "blossom", and I look forward to my next opportunity to visit you.

  • Just a short note to thank-you very much for yesterday. You made a pretty crapy situation much much better. You are very empowering. Thank goodness for you and blossom...
